设定有点意思。像是结界崩溃以后的哈利波特世界，人类和神奇动物共存。
狂欢节街上牛鬼蛇神横行，难民们一波波逃离大陆，被拍死在沙滩上，影射欧洲难民潮不言而喻。
男主，苏格兰场的雷斯垂德，在调查一宗以难民为对象的连环杀人案，凶手被起名（开膛手）杰克。（福尔摩斯风）
女主，难民出身，被卖到大户人家做女佣。大户人家干着非法的难民生意，有一个恨嫁的妹妹。盼星星盼月亮盼隔壁搬来一个达西先生，结果是羊头人！（这对本来是傲慢与偏见设定，但后来发展越来越呼啸山庄了）
政府话事人，名义上叫总理，但是议会辩论怎么看都是英式的。（总理叫押沙龙，那么铁定要悲剧罗？）
右翼反移民势力在街头鼓吹排外，在议会内部密谋，暗潮汹涌，一触即发。
而各路难民虽然表面上逆来顺受，但黑暗背后似乎又在酝酿着什么。
导演的想象力和雄心壮志可见一斑，大有接班《权力的游戏》的架势。
不过夜间场景太多而且多用自然光，不是OLED电视不开HDR的话黑乎乎一片很难看清。

Humans. You know them. Same as they ever were—greedy, prejudiced, vain, jealous, petty, scheming, and capable of incredible grace. （人类，没啥要解释的）
Fae. Everyone who is not a human in this universe is referred to as a “creature” or, less kindly, “critch.” You’ll hear a number of nonhuman slurs on Carnival Row as it grapples with its central allegory of immigration and the refugee crisis. The fae folk, or faeries, are pretty recognizable for anyone with a passing familiarity with fantasy. Wings, ethereal beauty; you know how it goes.
