很巧合地,我幾個月前才剛剛看完原著小說。(without knowing that it was gonna be made into a TV series).
Am currently on 3rd episode and haven't yet had time to sort out my thoughts but noting down a few thoughts here first.
1) Disappointed to see that there were a lot of things cut to make it fit into 8 episodes. (i read somewhere that the time at jodie high school was made into him walking down the hallway.. yes that was super disappointing.) Jake's time at Jodie was one of the most touching in the book, his dealing with the students who got severely injured, him developing relationships with Mimi and the principal, and his dancing thi.
Another point was the fact that Jake actually went back to the "present" a few times in the book and had to "set things right again" as each time resets itself. that was a very important point in the book (especially in the end), so since this is not illustrated in the earlier episodes, i look forward to see how this will turn out in the tv show.
2) quite surprised to see the big adaptation to add in bill as a character to aid in jake's plans. looking forward to see how it pans out.
update after watching 4th episode: ofcourse bill has to have an interest in lee's wife. it wasn't there in the book (because bill doesn't exist), but for the sake of appealing to the audience, of course there is some kind of love interest...
3) James Franco is a horrible actor. He seems to be day dreaming most of the time.
4) First came across Sarah Gadon in the movie "A Royal Night Out" in January. Thought she was beautiful and was quite looking forward to seeing here in 11.22.63. And as she has finally appeared in 3rd episode... wow she's beautiful.
5) it makes no sense that mimi only became suspicious of jake's identity after two years. also in the book, there were a lot of places where jake's "slangs" from the 21st century appeared, but in here, it was only something superficial such as "mafia", "mates". disappointing.
6) Sadie was described as a VERY very tall woman in the book, and that's why she found jake special at the first sight, as jake was one of those who were abnormally tall and who happened to be taller than Sadie. In this 4th Episode, their relationship seems to be moving on too quickly. Yes I understand love at first sight exists. But this doesn't even make sense. Like they just suddenly "jumped" in love. And Franco's horrible acting surely doesn't help this case.
7) All these Jake "fearing" about CIA threatening them is complete bullshit. Doesn't make any sense. And doesn't seem to be like "the past is pushing back" at all. In the book there were numerous MUCH BETTER examples of the past pushing back, and this is not it.
