What, when, where and who
The story is about a group of people who lives in the Yim village. Inside the village, there are the serious conflicts between two clans. Conflicts involving loyalty, marriage, lands and power. Loyalty refers to faithfulness, a person can not have affairs with other people. The number one curse for the village is when someone is being unfaithful. As for marriage, the purpose is to continue the generations or continue the business operations. Nobody sees marriage as the biggest deal, everyone's goal is to keep the generations lasting forever. As for the lands and power, every man seeks to occupy both, enough lands keeps the person enough power, enough power gives the person everything he wants. This is the life in the village, however this type of lifestyle destroys the village after all. At the end, the village can only be a deadly town, or a tourism spot...

THE FACTORS
- Love Factor -
Ada Choi
A bitter tea bag, maybe that's the best way you can describe Ada's character. She is bitter, but when the bitterness fades away, you will realize her neat personality. Who can ever say Ada is the villain? Who can ever blame her for all the things she did? As a mother, she thinks about her son the most, she plans every single thing for her son's future. For this, she sacrifices the most, but only found out the tragic death of his own son... Without a son, Ada lost the whole world, she lost herself. At this time, her enemy offers her all the love she needs. Ada seeks her revenge, but only found out she could not kill the man who owes her everything. At the end, she even sacrificed herself for this man...
Ada and Bowie's story
Bowie: "I owe you, more than anyone else. Do you understand?"
Ada: "I never loved you. Do you understand?"
After killing Ada's son accidentally, Bowie owes Ada every thing, he can use his whole life to protect and help Ada. For Ada, he will sacrifice everything he owns including his own life. In Ada's entire life, Bowie is the only man who treats her well. However, Ada doesn't need a man to love her, she only wants to be a good mother.... It's her destiny that she will never be a good mother, her life ended when her son died, it was Bowie who opened up her heart once again, but she never had any more strength to take care of anyone.
Bowie and Gigi's unique relationship
After Gigi married to Bowie, she has so many chances to leave him, she has so many chances not to falling in love with him. However, Gigi decided to say with him, helping him going through many things. If Bowie is in trouble, Gigi will try everything to help him. Slowly, they are forming a very unique chemistry. Gigi is Bowie's ears, she is his eyes, she is willing to take care of Bowie without letting him know who she is... It's true that Bowie loves Ada because he owes Ada, but Bowie loves Gigi even more because Gigi is his heart and soul.
The Ending
Episode 1 to 30 can be so disappointing and so slow, but the last two episodes and the ending will change everything you view and think about the series. This is one of the best endings TVB ever made within the recent years. This is one of the best endings you will never forget. I am amazed by the way the producer filmed the ending with the twisted way. From Ada, Bowie and Gigi's story to Charmaine and Moses' destiny, everything ended the perfect way, which can make you easily forgive the poor storyline from episode 1 to 30.
- Dislike Factor -
Before we begin, please try to remember that it's the characters I don't love, not the actors and actresses.
The Clan People
Having babies, having male babies, that's basically all they care about. Occupy lands, occupy each other's lands, that's all they concern about. Making sure all the women loyal to their husbands, making sure all the men didn't steal other people's wives, that's all they fighting about. These are the people who are very strict about the family business, however, they always make the smallest mistake the biggest deal.
Bowie's Father
If you wish to understand everything he says, good luck to you. I am just about to felt asleep every time this old man speaks. Bowie's father talks too slow, and he is too evil, but he has a kind face that doesn't look evil. I hate the way he tries to mess up everything, I hate the way he acts like he is the smartest person on earth. After hating all these, fast forward his conversations is a great option for both you and me.
Moses Chan's character: Sung Tung Shing
Tung Shing never does one good thing or never makes one good decision in the entire series. He is a trouble maker, a failure, a lover you don't need, a man who takes the wrong revenge on the wrong person. At the end, that revenge is only base on a stupid lie.
Mao Siu Kam
I hate her because of a lie. She is the one who lied to Moses about her sister's story with Bowie. I don't like the way she is jealous of Charmaine, I don't like the way she wants to keep Moses in the village.
Charmaine's character
Her character is not very like-able, her story is way to simple, and her conversations are just about one or two things, in another words, boring. You may consider her has the strongest personality, but her conversations are just to boring to remember.
Maggie and Kenny
I just don't like the way Maggie changed, she is way too strange all the sudden. To Kenny, his character is useless, and he needs to zip up his shirt.
The Entire Story
Don't try to compare this story to War and Beauty, you will only be disappointed. The focus of the story is not very strong, and the development of the story was so slow. The only surprising factors I found in the entire story was Bowie's disability and the ending, the rest can make you felt asleep easily. Maybe because there are not much thing can talk about within one small village, that's why you will hear the same thing over and over again.
THE COMMENTS
- The Performances -
The best performance skills goes to Ada Choi, she shines the whole series, and it's hard to find one single thing to dislike about her. At the end, she is the only one you will feel pity about. Other than Ada, Bowie and Gigi also did awesome performances, it took me long to love them both at the same time, however, it's worth it. As for Charmaine, no matter how much I didn't care about her character, I still loved her performances, I just wished her character can be little more special, but that didn't happen. For Moses, I hated his character more than anything, so I didn't care too much about his performances.
- Worth Watching? -
Well, if you can just read the episode summaries for episode 1 to 30, and enjoyed the last 2 episodes, you will be very satisfied, and not miss too much things. If you already started to watch the series, keep it going, you might need to skip through some boring parts, but the last 2 episodes will cheer you up. If you don't know anything, and just watch the last 2 episodes, you will still be ok. This is not the best series you will expect, but it has the best ending you want to watch.
