(Audience applauds… 掌声,欢呼声。。。。)

Angelina Jolie: “Thank you.”(低呼god)
James Lipton: “Our goal in this series is to mark the significant steps that have marked our guest’s journey this moment on our stage. The logical place to start is at the beginning.”
James Lipton: “Where were you born?”
Angelina Jolie: “Los Angeles.”
James Lipton: “What name is on your birth certificate?”
Angelina Jolie: “Angelina Jolie Voight.”
James Lipton: “Who’s your father?”
Angelina Jolie: “John Voight.”
James Lipton: “What is the ethnic origin of the name Voight?”“
Angelina Jolie: I don’t know…it’s German. I think it might be German.”
James Lipton: “Its Czech.”
Angelina Jolie: “Does it mean anything?”
James Lipton: “It means father of a beautiful woman.”
Angelina Jolie: (Laughs) (观众欢笑)

James Lipton: “What is your mother’s maiden name?”
Angelina Jolie: “Bertrand.”
James Lipton: “Her first name?”
Angelina Jolie: “Marcheline.”
James Lipton: “She was French then?”
Angelina Jolie: “Well she’s part Iroquois Indian and they were uh…she’s French Canadian. ”
James Lipton: “Was your mother an actress?”
Angelina Jolie: “She studied to be an actress.”
James Lipton: “Tell our students with whom your mother studied.”
Angelina Jolie: “Lee Stausburg.” (观众欢呼)
Angelina Jolie: “It’s probably the best advice she got on how to be a parent was from him, because she always…when I was growing up…she…she…every time I was emotional or I was upset about something or anything was going on, she um…she’d have me look at her and she’d say ‘What are you feeling? What are you thinking?”

(全场笑,Audience laughs… )

Angelina Jolie: “Isn’t that funny? The method as a three year old. “I’m feeling uhh…”
James Lipton: (Laughs)
Angelina Jolie: “So I grew up very aware of my emotions.”
James Lipton: “That’s evident when you act.”
James Lipton: “The common esteem over the past eleven years of this series is parental separation and divorce. Tonight it just comes up a little sooner than usual.”
James Lipton: “How old were you when your parents divorced?”
Angelina Jolie: “I was about six months old.”
James Lipton: “Where did you live after the separation?”
Angelina Jolie: “I lived for a while in LA then my mother moved to New York for a few years.”
James Lipton: Did you have frequent contact with your father after the divorce?”
Angelina Jolie: “I…I don’t remember a lot…no.”
James Lipton: “But you were close to your mother I assume.”
Angelina Jolie: “Very…yeah.”
James Lipton: “You call her a great lady.”
Angelina Jolie: “She is.”
James Lipton: “What makes her great?”
Angelina Jolie: “She is…uh just the most compassionate person I’ve ever met.”
James Lipton: “She was a product of the sixties, was she not”
Angelina Jolie: “She was.”
James Lipton: “How did that reflect in her personal philosophy?”
Angelina Jolie: “Uhh..she was…um…maybe a little bit more open with me. She understood me a little…ummm…my mom was raised Catholic and maybe it would have been a bit shocking to have me as a daughter if she hadn’t also experienced the sixties"
James Lipton: “Yeah. Who were the Kissie Girls?”
Angelina Jolie: (stares at James for a moment) “Oh-My-God! As I reached for the water.”
Angelina Jolie: (Laughing) “Ummm…I…uhh…I was very sexual in kindergarten… ”

(全场笑,Audience laughter… )

Angelina Jolie: ”And umm…and my mom often got called.
And I was…umm…I created something apparently…I don’t really remember, apparently it was something like kissing the boys and giving them cooties and a few of them stopped and we started making out and we had to take our close off and I got in trouble a lot in kindergarten.”

(笑)

James Lipton: “This is a first! Eleven years and you’re our first kindergarten…
Angelina Jolie: “I know…”
James Lipton: Whatever. Now here’s a question I thought I’d never ask you, because it just astonishes me. Didn’t you have ambitions to be a funeral director.”
Angelina Jolie: (Giggles) “un huh.”
James Lipton: “Did you do any studying?”
Angelina Jolie: “Un hun…I did. I did a home site course…(giggles)
James Lipton: “Where’d you get the…the uhhh…the literature?”
Angelina Jolie: “They send it to you, if you…”
James Lipton: “Funeral services student handbooks?”
Angelina Jolie: “They actually do yeah.. (laughs)
James Lipton: “Questions I never thought I’d ask. Answers I never thought I’d get. Now this intrigues me. How old were you when you and your boyfriend began cutting each other?”
Angelina Jolie: “Ummm. I was fourteen when I was dating my first boyfriend. We live together for two years. We lived with my mom.”
James Lipton: “ the two of you lived…moved…”
Angelina Jolie: “With my mom, which was actually a smart thing because I wasn’t sneaking around. I had my home…my base. So I was safe.“
James Lipton: “I understand.”
Angelina Jolie: “Ummm…and it was really because I’ve always collected weapons since I was very little so it was just one night that um…I mean do you really want me to get into this? Because I can.”

James Lipton: “I think our students would like to hear about it.”

Angelina Jolie: “It was that I had started having sex and that sex didn’t feel like enough and no emotions were really enough and nothing really felt like it was…I didn’t feel…like there was always something you wanted to break out of or hit to feel more…be more connected to another person, something more honest. And in kind of a moment of wanting to feel something more honest, I grabbed a knife I cut him and he cut me back. and we had this exchange of something and then somehow covered in blood…my heart racing and there was something dangerous in life and…uhhh…it suddenly felt more honest then whatever this sex was suppose to be, this connection between two people was suppose to be. Ummm…so I went through a period of when I’d feel trapped I would cut myself because it felt like I was releasing something…and it was…it was uhh…it was honest.”

James Lipton: “Did it leave any scars?”

Angelina Jolie: “I have a lot of scars yeah. And since obviously then I’ve found other ways of channeling that and understanding what that is and making use of that thing inside yourself that has that…”

James Lipton: “Where you in therapy in high school?”

Angelina Jolie: “I went to therapy for extra credit for a while.”

(大笑Audience Laughs..).

James Lipton: “God bless Los Angeles. This is Hollywood. Only in Hollywood do you get credit for therapy. Now don’t you students wish that we were giving you credit? A little therapy and some credit.”

James Lipton: (To Angelina) “What was it like?”

Angelina Jolie: “I found it…uhhh…quite manipulating and a bit simple. But that’s not…you know…there is no simple answer. It wasn’t good for me.”

James Lipton: “When did you decide that you wanted to be an actor?””

Angelina Jolie: “I went to the Strausburg Institute when I was sixteen. I had a desperate need-which I think most artist do- to communicate. You know to feel whatever it is inside of me, whether its cutting…going craz…that there is something inside of us that we want to reach out…we want to talk to each other…we want…uhhh…we want to throw our emotions and our thoughts out and hope that we make some sense or we get an answer. So that was the best way to do it. To just emote and hope that there would be a response.”

James Lipton: “What made you decide to study at Strausburg”
Angelina Jolie: “My mom.”
James Lipton: “Of course. What did they teach you?”
Angelina Jolie: “You actually have sessions where you’re trying to feel an orange.”
James Lipton: “We’re shocked…shocked!” (Laughter)

Angelina Jolie: “I still can’t feel that orange. But..umm…you know that thing of that smell, that feeling of holding that person’s hand that’s passed away or that…that does make sense to me.”

James Lipton: “Do you use what you’ve learned there?”

Angelina Jolie: um hmmm…”
James Lipton: “What was your first movie role?”
Angelina Jolie: “Serious movie role?”
James Lipton: “You were a human machine hybrid.”
Angelina Jolie: “I was. This is so funny. I did a fantastic B movie.”
James Lipton: “Called?”
Angelina Jolie: “Cyborg 2”
James Lipton: “And was that a happy experience?”
Angelina Jolie: “It was until I saw it.”

(Audience laughter... )

James Lipton: “Foxfire is based on a Joyce Carol-Oats novel.. I had never seen this movie until I began preparing for tonight. It surprised me…it impressed me. I’m curious to know what you think of it.”

Angelina Jolie: “I love the character. There was something about her that I felt connected to emotionally. I cared about her. “

James Lipton: “What was her name?”
Angelina Jolie: “Legs.”

James Lipton: “Legs Sadofsky. In your view, who is Legs and how did you create her?”

Angelina Jolie: “I think every character is a part of you and a part of the character that you are going to evolve into that you are not yet so she was both…she was a part of me and then something about her was something that I admired that I was yet to become.”

James Lipton: The tattoo scene is undeniable sensuous, what you do in the scene.
Angelina Jolie: :i tatoo myself, and i tatoo the other women's breast.i love doing it, they are not just the a..but there were sesual and fun,but there are something and you know there is somthing very interesting about there's all of us we read, we have working for very long time and we haven't been naked in front of each other and everyone got their own issue..and yeah you can be the first one to be bold to take your shirt off and started. everybody you know the other girl and then just looks around and this your friend and then she .. find another women take hers off, there is something very umm...yes sensual but really you find each other looking at each other eyes sayinng is ok, you know i am with you you are beautiful and stay with me and don's be shy. and so is lovely... it was very .it was very swee..t. is was lovely time between women.

James Lipton: “Angelina who knows how to stir up a bit of a fuss, during the promotional tour said that you had fallen in love with someone during the filming. Do you remember that?”

Angelina Jolie: “Un…hmm.”
James Lipton: “With whom?”.
Angelina Jolie: “Jenny. I got very close to Jenny.”
James Lipton: “Were you just promoting the film or were you talking from the heart?”
Angelina Jolie: “No I would never do something like that. No I was…
James Lipton: “Why?”
Angelina Jolie: I thought that she was a beautiful magnificent woman and I didn’t see…I just said it because it was what I felt.”
James Lipton: “Not for its shock value?”

Angelina Jolie: “No…no. I always still find that strange that people get shocked by something like that.”

James Lipton: angelina received an Emmy nonimation for her performance in a television mini series george wallace. your cornelia was a very complex protrait ,she was fillish she was sedutive she was loyal common blast..sie well painfully nobel. how much it were came from the script and how much that did you invent. based on the real person.
Angelina Jolie: it is based on the real person. i think she is still alive today,
James Lipton: did you, did you study the real person or just you.
Angelina Jolie: i stay a bit i seem. i saw the picture of .. of her over his body when he was shot. and that said a lot to me.
James Lipton: you feel an obligation
Angelina Jolie:yeah..absolutely.

James Lipton: “The role of Cornelia Wallace made very serious emotional and dramatic demands on you. ”

Angelina Jolie: “Hmm..”

James Lipton: “Angelina received a Golden Globe for her performance as Cornelia Wallace. That indicates that you meant those demands head on. Do emotions come readily to you in front of the camera?”

Angelina Jolie: “Yeah…I suppose they do. I went through a time as a teenager where I never cried. I didn’t think it accomplished anything. I still am kind of like that…I don’t cry.”

James Lipton: “In life…in life.”
Angelina Jolie: “In my life…I don’t like to cry. But for some reason yeah…maybe its because I need to when I’m acting so I can’t stop when I start.”

James Lipton: “One of the things that you bring to the screen is a palpable energy. You’ve said. ‘ I believe in instinct…something primal. I like to live life in the moment. Our students are taught to work in the moment. Is it the same thing? What does it mean to you...to be in the moment?”

Angelina Jolie: “I think that its just uhhh…just to be who you are. And to feel what you feel and to be awa…just honest…complete honesty with yourself and those around you and…uhh just alive…completely alive.”

James Lipton: “Angelina received a Golden Globe Award, A Screen Actor’s Guild Award and an Emmy nomination for her performance in Gia.”

(掌声Audience applauses and shouts...)

James Lipton: “Gia" was based on a real person.

Angelina Jolie: She was, a-a young girl from philly and she became a-a model and, um, I think the essence of who she was is just a very, uh, spirited woman who loved women, who, uh, needed love, who was very open and who got, um, very lost in a-in a world that embraced very superficial things and she became an addict, and then died of aids.

James Lipton :Were you at all hesitant to accept the part?

Angelina Jolie:yeah, I said, "no", quite a few times.

James Lipton :Why, why?

Angelina Jolie:Because she felt too close to me.

James Lipton :How so?

Angelina Jolie:There was a lot of things I just didn't want to confront, I suppose, and-and I think that, um, you know, that desire to want to-to feel a real sense of self other than-other than the very superficial things in this world and-and the-the need maybe for all of us to-to feel that we are understood and loved for who we are.I don't think I'm so unique in that.And-and but addiction, I know addiction, as well.

James Lipton :You know it you say.

Angelina Jolie:Um-hmm.

James Lipton :You know addiction.

Angelina Jolie:I know addiction in all forms, yeah.

James Lipton: Drug addiction?

Angelina Jolie:I know addiction in all forms, yes.

James Lipton: (laughter) In talking about the characters you've played you've said that somehow they all corresponded to something you were going through in that moment in life.

Angelina Jolie:I think as artists you somehow draw into your environment something that-that is similar to you but every once in a while something comes that just for some reason is-is so--is so appropriate or you needed so much at that time. You needed to go through that experience. You needed to learn that lesson so much right then.

(GIA片段)

James Lipton: Gia is a lesbian and there are sexual encounters between gia and the character of linda.

Angelina Jolie:There was something very important about the two women really exploring each other, really looking at each other. And even the scene where I had to run to the elevator naked, which I didn't want to do necessarily, but what it said about the character and what it said about the two of them and-and it-it was extremely important.

James Lipton :Given roles like gia and legs in "foxfire" and cornelia in "george wallace", do you ever find that you become entangled in their lives ..Or hard-or hard to leave them behind?

Angelina Jolie:I don't leave them behind. After gia i, um, I moved to new york.I-i stopped acting.

James Lipton :. because of the experience?

Angelina Jolie:Because I didn't feel like I had anything else to give.

I came here and-and went to nyu and—

James Lipton : studied what?

Angelina Jolie:Film making.

James Lipton :What was that experience like?

Angelina Jolie:I kind of got back to the basics of things for myself and-and got to learn my own-my own tastes for things and i-and I went to a writing class .. so it-it was just good for me to collect myself.

James Lipton:When billy bob thornton was here in that chair, we talked about "pushing tin".

Angelina Jolie:Oh. Billy.

James Lipton :He's a lovely man.

Angelina Jolie:He's a lovely man. He’s a great man and a great artist. Wasn’t there a "saturday night live" thing that you two did together?

James Lipton: He killed me.

James Lipton:(laughter) I didn't do it, that was-- this will come as a shock to you--

Angelina Jolie: billy came home and he said, he said, "i'm doing "saturday night live" and he said "i've decided, what i do but that wasn't me" i going to kill james lipton in his script " and I thought, "what are you talking about " (laughter)

James Lipton:will ferrell was so good in ..in bodying me that you said to me, "wasn't there a 'saturday night live' you did together" we didn't, that was will ferrell.
Angelina Jolie:Oh, that's funny.

James Lipton:wasn't even there. And he-and he chased me in the street.

Angelina Jolie:it is-it is so funny.
Angelina Jolie:You should see it if you haven't, it's hysterical.
James Lipton :So we sort of worked together.Come to think of it, "the simpsons" assassinated me too.
James Lipton (:laughter) They did.I wonder if they're trying to tell me something.
James Lipton :, well.

James Lipton :Angelina won the academy award for best actress in a supporting role for her performance as lisa rowe in "girl, interrupted".
James Lipton : (applause) What drew you to this character?

Angelina Jolie:Oh, god.I had-i had actually read that book years before and, um, when the script came around, I found the book in my library and I realized I had underlined everything lisa.

James Lipton :Really?

Angelina Jolie:Yeah and i-i knew her.

James Lipton :What did you see in her that you felt you knew?

Angelina Jolie:I felt that she was-she was honest.I felt that was honest in-in a world where a lot of things were-were not.
James Lipton :Yeah.
Angelina Jolie:That she could push everybody else's buttons and nobody could push hers.

James Lipton :Yeah.

Angelina Jolie:And-and I did see that as a very sad thing.I saw it as somebody who--she wanted so desperately for somebody to call her out, to talk to her honestly, to be in her face, to be direct with her, to have a real connection in life.

James Lipton :How did you decorate your trailer while you were-- while you were playing lisa?

Angelina Jolie:No.

James Lipton :I peeked.

Angelina Jolie:Ah,With lots of porn.

James Lipton :Photos?

Angelina Jolie:Um-hmm.

James Lipton :Why?

Angelina Jolie:Um, because-because it made me feel, um, provocative and open and sensual and-and, um, they loved my trailer.

James Lipton :This is how you've described lisa. "She lived too big, was too honest, was too hungry, full of the life" those sound like virtues, not sins.

Angelina Jolie:Yeah, they are absolutely virtues.

(((《移魂女郎》片段)))

James Lipton :Tell us about the oscar experience.

Angelina Jolie:I had a weird thing in my family-- my-my father was separated from my mother-- separating from my mother when he won his oscar. You know, she loved acting. They had separated and he took his girlfriend. And I remember just growing up and thinking, god, what a-what a tough night that would've been for her in her sweat pants with her two babies.

James Lipton :Yeah.

Angelina Jolie:And so I was very conscious of the fact that her two children were sitting next to each other. Something years later and we had just talked her and she had just, you know, and we're her babies that she was holding at that moment and that we called her after and-and got immediately on the phone with her and she was crying and it was-it was, um, it was her night and it was something very full circle about it in our family. So it was-it was a very heavy night for them.

James Lipton :What did you say in your acceptance speech?
Angelina Jolie:I know I said, "i love my brother" because everybody lost their minds. (laughter)

James Lipton : THERE IS AN EXPRESSION IN FRENCH, (speaking French). Which is to rile up the bourgeoisie. Is there that something? I mean--i assume-i assume that you and your brother did not have sexual relations.

Angelina Jolie:No, of course not.
James Lipton :Okay.
Angelina Jolie:No, yeah, it's a fair question because of all that, but we didn't, we did not.
James Lipton :Yeah, I mean, you were implying that you did.
Angelina Jolie:I was not implying that we did.
James Lipton :Oh, that's the way the world took it, come on.
Angelina Jolie:That is the way the world--well, the world is-- a little sicker than I would imagine.
James Lipton : (laughter) You know, I was-i was so-- sometimes you're a provocateur.
Angelina Jolie:But I'm really not. I mean, if you knew me in my life, i-i just speak very bluntly and i-i really don't see anything so bizarre about half the things that are always taken in such a--you know, I know if I'm being honest about something. Somebody asks me about cutting myself and I'm gonna be honest. If I said, "i'm very--i'm in love with my brother "right now" or "i love my brother", but-but the thing was, he's been that person that loved movies and held my hand through my entire career and—

James Lipton :well, sure, of course.

Angelina Jolie: And it was such a big moment for us more than about an award.

James Lipton :I understand.
Angelina Jolie:That it became about that for me.
James Lipton :But does it bother you that sometimes you are misunderstood or that the public and the press, they're often fixated on you. Do you feel that you are unfairly perceived sometimes? Does it bother you, do you hate it?

Angelina Jolie:No, I feel like the people that, um, that identify with me or the people I would care about actually know what's real and what's not. It bothers me more that we live in a world that focuses on certain types of things in a certain way.I would be happy if somebody wrote an article about my sexuality or my, you know, my fascination with different things they consider dark ..

James Lipton : yeah.

Angelina Jolie:And really expressed it in an intelligent .

James Lipton : Yeah.

Angelina Jolie: then I'd think it's great.

James Lipton :What effect did winning the oscar have on your career and your life? Change anything?

Angelina Jolie:Not really, no.
Angelina Jolie:I haven't seen it since the day I won it and I don't hold onto awards because I think it's good not to have them around.
James Lipton :You haven't lost it, have you?
Angelina Jolie:No, I gave it to my mom.
James Lipton :Cool.
James Lipton :What prompted you to go from the grim realities of "gia" and "the bone collector" to the neon world of an action hero and based on a video game in "lara croft: tomb raider".

Angelina Jolie:(applause) Thank you.
Angelina Jolie:Um, well, I'll have you know the first time I got a phone call that-that they asked me to do it, i-i hadn't seen the image of her in the-in the, uh, video game but then I saw it and I thought, "are you out of your mind?"Absolutely not and I'm offended and she's "offensive and, no" and I thought it was absurd. And then the filmmakers came out and talked to me and they-and they started to talk about the idea of the adventure of it and-and how much training it would take and going to england, the british military and these countries and having to understand and it-it became this kind of, um, just a different kind of challenge and i was like, "god, that really is tempting. "I would love to-to try to do that. "I would love to see those places. "

James Lipton :who played lara's father in "tomb raider"?

Angelina Jolie:My father.

James Lipton :Okay, we know there is a history there. There is a wonderful scene between the two of you.

Angelina Jolie:Um-hmm, the relationship between the two of them is-is he's-he's held secrets from her, he's been distant from her, and he's been absent.

James Lipton :I know.

Angelina Jolie:And, um, there were a lot of questions and, um, so it was clear that it was something that would be either a good idea or a very bad idea but, um, but I thought it was-it was a way for me to reach out to my father.

Angelina Jolie:We-we hadn't been close in that way and i thought this would be a way we could meet on this new ground that I've found for myself as an artist and I could meet him on this ground and get to know him this way and it was very much us saying "hello" and "goodbye" and in-in a weird way it was a few months before the last time we ever spoke. So it was kind of a hello and goodbye and-and something that was very therapeutic and something, you know, .. There it is.

(《古墓丽影》片段)

James Lipton what ... you to "beyond borders"?
Angelina Jolie:There are themes in that film that later became very much a part of my life.
James Lipton :There is a scene in which you are honored by the u.n.h.c.r. in the film. is the united nations high commission for refugees.

Angelina Jolie:After I started traveling, uh, awhile, i realized there was quite a lot I didn't know about the world. that they looked after 20 million people who were displaced from their homes and-and they were the most vulnerable people in the world. I wanted to learn about it and I started to travel and then I did and I went to my first war zone, I went to the first area where I saw so much death, and never again would I think about being self-destructive or taking my life for granted or wanting for more or complaining about stupid things or, um, thinking I knew pain, ever again once I saw them.

James Lipton :Do you have aposition with them?

Angelina Jolie:I became goodwillambassador for them.

James Lipton :And what I suspect is aclosely related subject, how did maddox come into your life?

James Lipton :Time for maddox, hey?

Angelina Jolie:time for mad, oh, jeez. i, when I went-- when I went to cambodia to shoot I was-i was very moved by the country and very moved by these people who had survived so much. And then I went back there with the u.n. And I went to a lot of orphanages and something just felt like home to me and family to me and-and it became very clear to me that-that, uh, my son was there or my daughter was there or someone was there that was supposed to be my family.I don't know how to explain it.Um, and so i, you know, I applied for adoption and then I went back and-and, uh, knew this one morning I was gonna wake up and I would be taken to this one orphanage and somewhere in this one orphanage, there would be a few kids and-and one of them I would take as my child. And I was so nervous. I was, I woke up, I was stuttering, I was .. Mad was the last kid I saw and he was- he was asleep. He was three months old and, um, and he was asleep and they put him in my arms and he stayed asleep and they put him in the bath and he stayed asleep and I thought he was narcoleptic or something. And he opened his eyes and he just stared at me for the longest time and I just stared at him and I started crying and-and, uh, and he smiled. And it wasn't that he smiled that he liked me. It was just that i-i hadn't held children in my life and I was always considered so dark and I always had so many things that made me feel like maybe I shouldn't be somebody's mom because certainly the world has an opinion of me and I'm not so sure about myself as-- am I gonna be the best mom? So the fact that this little kid seemed at ease, um, gave me the courage to feel like I could make him happy. And, um, so we became a family right then.
James Lipton :Has he made you happy?
OH, unbelievably happy. Yeah, yeah. He made me believe in fate some kind of-- god knows how we found each other but we found each other and he's my best friend. He's my everything.

James Lipton :We come now to one of the pillars of this series over the past 11 years.

James Lipton :The subject, of course, is airplanes.
Angelina Jolie:aw
James Lipton :Do you remember your solo?
Angelina Jolie:OH, god, yeah.
James Lipton :Where did you solo?
Angelina Jolie:IN-in camarillo airport. It is the best feeling, it's the best.
Angelina Jolie:Like they say, it's better than sex or it's better--it is so much better.

James Lipton: Do you say it-do you say it's better than sex?
Angelina Jolie:Ohm my god, yeah.
James Lipton :Really, want to go flying?
Angelina Jolie.YES
James Lipton Then we can say we, you know.
Angelina Jolie: IT's amazing, it's, um, yeah.
James Lipton (laughter) Now to another central theme of this series over the last 11 years. One of the students just pointed to his arm. Tattoos.
Angelina Jolie.AH
James Lipton It is well-known that I am not allowed to have a tattoo.
(laughter) And I figured one of these nights, kedakai is gonna get the idea. What tattoos do you have?

Angelina Jolie:I have, uh, an "h" for my brother. Haven is his middle name. I have a prayer, "for the wild at heart kept in cages", which is-which is tennessee williams and I got that after "girl, interrupted", I got that with my mom. I have "know your rights" across my neck.

James Lipton :Really?
Angelina Jolie:Something I believe in very much.
And I have, uh, "strength of will" in-in arabic, which I got in egypt. I have a big black cross here, which is a bit crooked, and I got it right before I got married the first time, which is actually a cover for something I got in amsterdam with a very long tongue, that wasn't appropriate the next morning.

James Lipton: (laughter) I see something peeping out of your belly there.
Angelina Jolie:Yeah, the cross. And, um, "what nourishes me also destroys " that's in latin. And then I have a very big tiger that was recently done, uh, in thailand.
James Lipton :You used to have a window on your back too, didn't you?
Angelina Jolie:Yeah, I closed it.
James Lipton :Did you really?
Angelina Jolie:Yeah, I didn't need it anymore.
I-i used to have a window because I had this-i had this restless thing of wherever I was, I was always staring at windows. I was always wanting to go out that door. I now live out the window.Yeah. And I don't need it anymore.

James Lipton :What is "a moment in the world"?
Angelina Jolie:It was an idea I had. I kept saying--i kept going between, you know, mad's country and refuge camps or war zones to hollywood and all this odd places and then seeing the world ..And then it became this kind of, um, crazy adventure of organizing a lot of people and-and gathering over 30 crews of people and sending them across the world to all these places.

James Lipton :What do those crews do?
Angelina Jolie:On january 11th we all opened up our cameras at the exact same time coordinated across the world.
James Lipton : How long, three, four minutes?
Angelina Jolie:Three minutes.
James Lipton :The same three minutes simultaneously shot all around the world. By these crews.
James Lipton :And you're producing it?
Angelina Jolie:I'm producing it, thank you.

(掌声applause)
James Lipton : How did the role of jane smith in "mr. and mrs. smith" come into your life?
Angelina Jolie:Just was sent a script and I thought it was a- it was a really fun read because there is a lot of fun in it and a lot of humor to it that I'm still not comfortable with that kind of comedy and whether I can do that. So I was a little shy to do it. um, but it was great. It was a great experience. It's-it's, um, it's a very fun film.

James Lipton :Who directed the film?

Angelina Jolie:Doug liman.
James Lipton :Who is mr. smith?
Angelina Jolie:Brad pitt.
James Lipton :In the beginning of the film we see a marriage THAT WOULDN'T BE OUT OF PLACE ON A '50s TV Screen, right?
Angelina Jolie: Yeah.
James Lipton :Sort of a very traditional, conventional marriage.
James Lipton :How does it begin with the two of you?

Angelina Jolie:we've been married six years, we're in therapy, and we both are very unhappy. We know nothing about each other, we don't communicate. And then at a certain point you think that they are both having an affair because they both keep going off to separate things and you . And then at some point you discover that they're both hit men. They're assassins.
James Lipton :They're assassins. And neither knows?
Angelina Jolie:And they're both using each other as a cover and they've been living for six years just in this boring marriage and they're actually not boring people but they both don't know it.

James Lipton :What assignments have they been given?
Angelina Jolie:To kill each other. The entire film is a metaphor for marriage.

James Lipton :Is it?
Angelina Jolie:It is.
James Lipton :Tell us about shooting the action sequences. There must've been some pretty hot stuff going on.
Angelina Jolie:The funny that happened, it was written-- it was written very much as a comedy and there was a little bit of action in it. And-and then, uh, the-the stunt coordinator was the stunt coordinator that did the" tomb raiders" and also did "troy".
So this person came in to do these little action sequences that were written on half a page and realized that the two people who were working on the film loved action and so suddenly this two day action scene became a three week thing where we were, you know, we were saying, "well, why do you have a slide?"I don't have a slide across the floor and why "do you have this thing and I want to scale down from "the--and I want to go through the glass" and so we became, like, we're both very competitive and very aggressive and so the-the--everything escalated into these really huge, huge fight scenes.

James Lipton :The moments between you and brad pitt are incandescent. Tell us about working with him in this film.
Angelina Jolie:Um, it was-it was great to work with him.
James Lipton :Good actor, isn't he?
Angelina Jolie:He's a great actor, he's also a really- a really great guy. You know, I think, um, I didn't-i didn't know what to expect, I think, in meeting him because he's one of those people you hear about .. they just seem very far away. They don't seem real.
James Lipton : yeah.
Angelina Jolie:Um, and he's extremely down to earth and he's just, um, goofy and funny and-and, uh, very good. Very, uh, and at the end of the day we just we spent most of the time competing. We still argue about who's the better shot and who's the better, you know—
James Lipton : really?
Angelina Jolie:Yeah, we're like—
James Lipton : and what about the comedy aspects of it? Do you like playing comedy?
Angelina Jolie:I did, I think when you're in the right environment and you're with the right people and the .. Then you get- you get goofier. He was always encouraging me to be dumber I think. Not dumber, but he was, like, "you know what would be really fun", I said, "god, if I turn that corner I almost went " and I'd get that, "oh, that'd be so funny. " so next thing you know- you know I was reloading and being very cool and then turning around and then bang and falling over and I thought, "gol, now I'm just being a complete idiot" and everybody's, you know, so--but so we had that kind of fun and we were-we were always encouraging that kind of, you know, that kind of thing.

James Lipton :Do you like the film?
Angelina Jolie:I do like the film, yeah. I think it's-i think it's actually- I think it's a really good film. It works as a film, but it's also funny and all those things a film needs to be.

Angelina Jolie:It's a good one.

Angelina Jolie:Uh, you are allowed in.
James Lipton :No matter what. Here are your students.

Hi, I'm gray, I'm a third year actor. How do you reconcile doing a love scene with someone else, um, in front of all sorts of people?
Sharing that part of yourself with-with someone else?

答:It is a very strange thing and it's a strange thing to know that your husband or wife is gonna go off and, you know, same reasons I've had girlfriends joke about, oh, "isn't it, you know, "you get to go off and have these experiences with "people, and, you know, they're married and they don't get to have that excuse to .." um, but it's a strange- it's a strange thing but-but-but for me it's always harder—

I can do a sex scene quite easy. I can't, uh, have an emotional scene looking at somebody across the dinner table without getting uncomfortable. You know, something that's very emotional in-- a soul connection is-is very difficult. A physical thing is-is, um, for some people, for me, very easy. Um, you know, you-you find something about that person that you love and that you enjoy and you do truly embrace and have fun with and-and you just enjoy each other. And you're two adults and you enjoy each other ..It doesn't mean anything and it-it was, uh, whatever it was and leave--is left there. these healthy choice ..

男观众:Cond year actor. Uh, first of all, you mentioned amsterdam in passing by. As a dutch man I have to ask you, what was the experience of my country like for you?

angie:(回答)I, um, I woke up in your country trapped in a waterbed, um, and unable to close my pants because I had a new tattoo that was, um, very painful and in the wrong area.

男观众:(laughter) My real question, my real question. Has to do with your craft and, uh, and that is when you're having trouble with a scene or a character and when something feels wrong, what do you think is the best way to go back to it, revisit it, and make it better?

angie:(回答)Usually if i--if something doesn't feel right, it's because there is something false about it or something about it I'm not truly connecting to or I'm just, uh, so I would- I would, uh, I would stop, if-if possible, stop the scene and talk to the other actor, talk--whether we need to re-look at the scene or our dialogue or something about it that's feeling really wrong and I'm happy to do that. But usually that's been addressed before we get there on the day. And I've gotten pretty used to, uh, getting in-into the head space of the character before the scene begins. There was a big lesson I had to learn.
When there was a big emotional scene I had to do or i-- or a deep character, I tended to wake up in the morning and immediately go to that place and obsess about it all day and not be able to talk to anybody and be crying and freaking and staying until I had a headache because I was just so--i couldn't- I couldn't slide in and out of it. And then, um, and then I'd get on set and I'd feel like I was being weird so I'd-i'd break character to apologize to the crew or try to say, "hi". And it took me a while. And now what I will do is do everything i can to have a light morning, have a great time with the crew, do everything that, you know, make the environment very comfortable and make myself very relaxed. And then just at the last minute, like 15 minutes before, um, go into a place and go as fully into it and know when I come out that there is a safe environment now and that I can be in. But that was a huge lesson for me because I used to drive myself totally insane and-and, um, so it's something I think we all do.
