A brother and sister, apparently far away from each other's lives for a while, were brought together to take care of their dementia father. Brought up in an single-famliy by a seemingly abusinve father, both sibilings (Jon and Wendy) find themselves unable to make commitment. He's not ready to marry a Polish woman who is to be deported due to visa expiration and she has been sleeping with a married man just for sex but humanizes her cat and plant some that she is not feeling alone in her unsuccessful life. Both of them look independent, but neither of them, can bear the loniness that is pressing. Anti-depressant seems to be the only thing that they can share.
The grey winter in Buffalo sets the tone. It's a hard time in their lives. Father's dying, loved are leaving, or never exits, or not sure. Jon is a practical person. When they are trying to put their father into a nicer, more expensive nursing home, he said to Wendy:"this nursing home markets to a guilty demographics. this landscaping is just trying to keep us away from what is happening here...that people are dying here."
