American teens are in such a fucked up situation and I blame the law. It was funny how the smoking rate dropped in the US for high school students while "getting high" is more likely their choice now. So...w/e. Why they love party like this. Cause it actually feels good to lose control and break the law. It's the presure. It might be a fake story here in the movie. But things like this actually happened twice in my university. And just two years ago, me and my roomate started a party inviting small group of people, which end up almost losing control. This is just a small aspect. What we will face in future is still a question. Remember this is just a party going out of control. More things could have gone down that way.
