It has obvious similarity to several typical movies created by the other members in the Fifth Generation: Yellow Earth by Chen Kaige, Red Sorghum by Zhang Yimou, no matter from the aspect of text or language. All of them often cut between an extreme long shot and a big close-up. All of them talk about the conflicts between the lead characters and the necessary rules that a primitive society needs. And all of them tell us that the more primitive the community tend to be, the more powerfully the belief functions, and the stronger its tie can be.
Besides, when I was a very young, about 7 or 8 years old, I got up too early naturally once in a while. And under the situation I got a feeling that the whole world was deep blue. From the furniture to the outside world in the window, everything was deep blue. Just like the dawn scenes this movie presents. The color use of this film is realistic.
