Probably the best food documentary I’ve ever watched. Great balance between food and culture. The series has talked about the authenticity, inclusion, racism history, political identity, and personal intimate relationships with food. Food closely reveals our deep humanity and this clip has done a really good job.
I particularly like David Chang’s advocates for Asian food& Chinese food which is underrepresented and underestimated in the US due to people’s prejudice, racism and condescending, associating it with the “dirty and inferior” Chinese immigrants.
Also, I was deeply touched by the last episode where David went to a small village in Hebei, China and a delight grandma cooked him dumplings. It reminds me of my grandma, and many women who are humble and constantly serve their family food. The food makes you cry is not, at least not necessarily the best Michelin five-start food, but the food that associates you with the beautiful and precious memory with people who love you, and that means everything.
